Delta
Blues for Patton
This
tune is inspired by the playing styles of the great Mississippi
Delta blues guitarists such as Charlie Patton, Willie Brown, and
Tommy Johnson. The picking is a sort of a lazy strum-like effect
where you brush across more than one bass note at a time. Even though
the tablature may have only one written out, the idea is to brush
across two or three. This is one picking technique that gives the
Delta blues its distinctive rich sound.
Play
the song slowly trying to create this brush-like pick to the bass.
To hear these ideas in the original recordings, listen to Charlie
Pattons Green River Blues or Pony Blues
and Tommy Johnsons Bye Bye Blues and Willie
Browns Future Blues.
